Girnar Ropeway to be virtually inaugurated on Oct 24 by PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Girnar Ropeway project virtually on October 24. The Girnar Ropeway at Junagadh will be the country’s biggest and one of Asia’s largest passenger ropeways upon completion. At 900 metres high and 2320 metres long, it will be the world’s largest temple ropeway and is being constructed on Gujarat’s tallest mountain Girnar. It will have 9 towers and 25 carriages, with a carrying capacity of 8 persons each. The ropeway will be able to carry as many as 8,000 visitors in a day, covering 2.3 km distance in only 7.5 minutes.

The Girnar Ropeway Project is expected to massively boost tourism in Saurashtra, because of its proximity to Sasan Gir region-home to Asiatic lions, the Somnath temple and Diu travel circuit. Jawahar Chavda, Minister of State for Tourism, Gujarat said, “With the initiation of the ropeway project, we are expecting at least a 10 fold increase in footfalls in the next couple of years.”

The project will be developed by Ghaziabad-based Usha Breco (UBL) on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) mode on a budget of INR 130 crore.
