#Voices of Travel: Never has travel come to complete standstill before COVID, observes Alefiya Singh

In this ongoing series, we explore how humans of travel are mitigating the ongoing COVID19 outbreak. Alefiya Singh from Iris Rep hopes to overcome uncertainty with the help from the Government.

The story of Iris Reps started in the year 2012 and the company started with a 2-member team. Today, it has grown to a team of 12 members with a presence in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. The company saw loads of ups and downs, new entrants, departures in terms of employees and products as well but never in these 8 years did we see business coming to complete standstill.

Being an Indian, our first reaction was to take things with a pinch of salt and less drama. So while my team and I were preparing to counter the current situation, the news alerts would keep popping after every hour making the current action plan totally redundant. Finally, we had to take a call on remaining indoors from 17th March onwards until further notice. We have seen cancellation flood our desk but each one of the queries and cancellations was handled by the team with absolute sensitivity by offering free cancellation, free date change, etc. Taking the current scenario into account, we also had to request the staff to survive on the pay cuts, reduced working hours, etc. which all have understood and are willing to support.

Respites from the government on loans, deferred TDS are small measures which are allowing the company to breathe a bit but to be honest, currently, there is no clarity and only once the market opens up, will we be able to take actions. At this point of time, we are all sitting tight, happy to be breathing and once back to action, we will start kicking to get the market alive.
