The travel and tourism industry worldwide is facing an unprecedented tragedy with the outbreak of COVID19. How are travel businesses reacting?  In this series, hear it all from the people that matter. Yaoza K Shimray, Information Officer, Tourism Authority of Thailand told us that:

China and Thailand were the first countries that were affected because of COVID19. The impact of COVID19 on the travel industry has been very adverse. There is no business happening, most of the customers have cancelled their trips. Even the government has announced a ban on airlines travelling to India. It has impacted the whole tourism industry. No one can actually say when will this end. We are just monitoring the situation, but these are very challenging times.

In the coming two months, we will keep a very close watch on the expenses in the Indian sector. In Thailand, the government has already introduced a scheme to protect the citizens involved in the travel and tourism industry. Employees in Thailand and India have adjusted their office timings for the betterment of their health. Even the government has announced the lockdown for the next two weeks,  so we are working from home.

Currently, the situation is grim. We are just hoping that things get better and we come back with a bang. Still, it’s very difficult for us to predict anything right now.
