Odisha to organise Marine Drive Eco Retreat festival


With an aim to attract more domestic and international tourists to Puri and Konark, the Odisha Tourism department is organising a month-long Marine Drive Eco Retreat festival. Starting December 14 the festival will continue till January 14 and will take place near the beach town of Konark on the Puri-Konark marine drive.

A temporary luxury tent cottage with 50 rooms will be set up with water and electricity connection and parking facility. Cultural festival, 3D mapping, food festival, adventure and water sports arrangement will be made for the visitors.

The decision to celebrate the festival was taken at a meeting headed by the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik.

According to a tourism department official, the key objective behind such an event is to upgrade Konark and Puri from a one-day visit destination to a tourism hub by facilitating tourists best of the accommodation on the sea beach. With this facility, the tourists can explore nearby tourism places other than Puri, Konark and Chandrabhaga beach.

Based on the success of the event, the government would decide whether to make it an annual affair to organise similar events in other parts of the state, said an official source.

The annual Konark Dance Festival (near the Sun Temple) and International Sand Art Festival (on the Chandrabhaga beach), which are being organised from December 1 to 5 attract many domestic and international tourists to the beach town.
