Promoting tourism is one of the main priorities of Egypt currently, said Rania Al-Mashat, Tourism Minister. 98% of the tourism sector in Egypt is owned by the private sector and the ministry is in talks with them to solve the issues they are currently facing.

Al-Mashat said that tourism in Egypt is one of the largest contributing sectors to the country’s economy, during a session in ‘Africa 2018 Forum’. 20% of Egypt’s GDP was from tourism by the end of the first quarter of this fiscal year and the number of international visitors increased by 40% year-on-year.

“We are working on many institutional reforms within the ministry, as well as offering training programmes abroad for the ministry’s staff, with the aim of developing local tourism to match global developments,” said Al-Mashat.

Online marketing of the tourism of Egypt was developed by the Ministry. The Ministry is also working on reforming and updating current tourism-related legislation, added Al-Mashat.
