As per the 2017 figures, India now ranks among the top five source markets for Thailand after China, Malaysia, Korea and Laos. In 2017, over 1.4 million Indians visited Thailand, an increase of 18% over the previous year.

Speaking about the potential of the Indian market, Santi Chudintra, Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Asia and the South Pacific), Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said, “We regard the Indian market as one of the very high-potential markets. We have seen an 18% increase in Indian travellers last year over 2016. This year, I would suggest the Indian travellers explore the niche beach resorts in Thailand in the current year.”

Over the years, Thailand has emerged as one of the preferred wedding and honeymoon destinations for Indians. TAT is initiating many unique activities and projects this year that will focus on promoting women travelling, family and first-time traveller segments for the Indian market, outlined Soraya Homchuen, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand- Mumbai on the sidelines of OTM 2018.

Talking about the travel show, she remarked, “OTM is India’s largest and most international gathering of travel trade buyers and professionals. Most importantly it is conducted in Mumbai each year which is the headquarters for almost all major outbound tour operators.”
