Kate Jones, Tourism Minister of Queensland said that nature-based attractions in the Gold Coast hinterland needed to be promoted more heavily and she wants to expand and improve the Gold Coast’s ecotourism industry.

She said there had been a big growth in Tasmania’s tourist numbers since that state launched an ecotourism product.

“In my opinion we could be doing better in Queensland and I have set it as a goal for myself as the Tourism Minister in Queensland that we actually get a product on the ground this term,” stated Kate Jones.

“Quite clearly when you look at the beautiful hinterland of the Gold Coast that seems like a very good opportunity. I know that the O’Reilly family are already in discussions with the State Government about some of the opportunities they see. The clear message I want to give is when it comes to ecotourism I want to work very closely with the industry and also the Environment Minister to ensure we finally get a product here open to market on the Gold Coast,” she added.
