The government announced that Zambia has finally scraped the ban it had on safari hunting after losing much tourism revenue. However, the government also added that lions and leopards will remain protected.

“The suspension of safari hunting is hereby lifted,” Tourism and Arts Minister Jean Kapata said. “The suspension of cat hunting shall still remain in force until a survey to ascertain their numbers is complete Hunting fees will be raised.”

“Hunting will be conducted under laid down conditions and strict supervision from ZAWA. But the ban on big cats still stands,” Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) spokesperson Readith Muliyunda said.

Zambia, home to the world-renowned Victoria Falls, is now hoping to build a strong foothold in the Wildlife Tourism sector.
