Sharjah holds roadshow in India, takes new tourism initiatives

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, along with Air Arabia recently hosted roadshow in Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru, to promote the destination and attract more Indian travellers.

Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority said, “India is one of the most crucial and promising tourism markets for Sharjah and the emirate every year attracts thousands of tourists and visitors from the country.”

Last year Sharjah received more than 123,010 visitors from India, which is a growth of 41% over 2012. Average length of stay of Indian guests is 2.18 days in hotels (majority 4-star hotels) and 2.35 days in hotel apartments (majority standard apartments).

Substantial passenger traffic is demonstrated by the fact that Air Arabia has 111 flights per week from Sharjahto 13 destinations in India.

SCTDA is continually looking to add to the Emirates’ collection of exceptional tourism assets and ventures on offer.Their aim is to provide new experiences ranging from ecotourism to cultural and cruise tourism.

Sharjah’s hotels and resorts are witnessing a significant surge in foreign tourist arrivals. “The heavy turnout at beach hotels and resorts in the emirate has exceeded expectations. Numerous cultural, artistic, entertainment and shopping festivals hosted by Sharjah, not to mention special promotions offered by major malls and shopping centers since the beginning of the year, have added to the emirate’s attractions in the eyes of visitors. Hotels in the emirate had been encouraged by the Authority to offer special concessional rates to both visitors and residents,” added Al Midfa.
