Britain’s tallest building opens to public
The tallest building in Britain, the Shard greeted public visitors on February 1. “Shard will become a new tourism attraction in the city,” said Anders Nyberg, CEO of the Shard Viewing Gallery Management (UK) Ltd. Nyberg, who once worked as Director at the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa in Dubai, revealed that people like to book tickets in dusks, and many have already showed their interest to visit the building on the Valentine’s Day.
Nyberg told that the Shard could receive 5,000 people a day, about 1 million a year. He expected 60 % of the visitors from Britain, while the rest international tourists. “Asia is a huge market,” he said.
Renzo Piano, the architect of the Shard described the building as a “shard of glass” during planning stages. The building featuring 11,000 panes of glass provides the highest public observation galleries in London on its 68th to 72th floor.
