Turkey eyes a million Chinese tourists by 2018

As the year 2018 has been officially declared as the ‘Turkey Tourism Year’ in China, the tourism heads of Turkey are setting a target of more than one million Chinese tourists’ arrivals in Turkey in 2018.

Fuat Köroğlu the head of Wanda Real Beijing which owns the Wanda Group of China said the declaration of 2018 as ‘Turkey Year’ by China would go a long way in ushering in important opportunities for the tourism industry.

He feels that a proper PR and marketing plan is needed for the big and ready Chinese market.

One of the tourism service providers from Denizli province in southwestern Turkey said that up to about 95% of Chinese tourists visiting Turkey tend to head towards Pamukkale. The other favourable destinations for Chinese tourists are Cappadocia and Istanbul among other places.

Murat Şen, head of the Denizli Touristic Hoteliers Association and also a board member associated with the Hoteliers Federation of Turkey (TÜROFED) said that the number of Chinese tourists heading towards Turkey had increased in volumes since the year 2011.

As far as 2017 is concerned more than 81,000 Chinese tourists have visited Turkey in the initial five months. Sen also said that their goal is to welcome about 300,000 Chinese visitors this year.
