Establishing a firm belief in the principles of gender parity, equality and diversity with every nautical mile it covers in the sea the cruise ship Celebrity Edge, launched by Celebrity Cruises has named Malala Yousufzai as ship’s ‘Godmother’.
She has been described by Richard D Fain, Chairman, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (parent company of Celebrity Cruises), as an ‘honest to god hero’. The reason behind choosing Malala Yousufzai was that she has always been a beacon of hope for the downtrodden and the oppressed, and has the tenacity to stand up for what she believes in.
Keeping her spirit alive, Celebrity Edge will showcase the documentary ‘He Named Me Malala’ on the in-cabin TVs and Celebrity Cruises has already made a significant amount of donation to the Malala Fund.
Apple Woo, Head-Sales and Marketing, Celebrity Cruises, Asia to promote Celebrity Edge, commented on the launch, saying, “Celebrity Edge is packed with features, and guided by the spirit of one of the leading icons of upright morality, tenacity and dedication for equality, Malala Yousufzai. We sincerely hope that Celebrity Edge and our partnership with Malala’s non-profit foundation, the Malala Fund, brings in a sea of difference in the lives of the millions of girls still battling inhumane physical and intellectual surroundings.”
Commenting on the launch, Ratna Chadha, Chief Executive, TIRUN, exclusive India representative of Celebrity Cruises, said, “Celebrity Edge has made a unique collaboration with Malala Yousufzai and assigning her the most revered position of ‘Godmother’, and we have a ship that represents the highest standards of aesthetics, brilliance and morality, in short, a hands-down winner.”
Celebrity Edge will undertake its maiden voyage in December 2018, pre-bookings for which have already started.
