Bahrain Tourism organises two-city roadshow to lure wedding and MICE travellers from India

In a bid to lure Indian MICE, weddings and luxury travellers and to educate travel trade about the new and exciting destinations, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), recently conducted a two-city roadshow, Chennai and Bengaluru in India. With their primary focus on the MICE and wedding industry, BTEA flew in with a delegation of Bahrain Tourism officials, as well as Bahrain’s leading hotels and destination management companies.

Speaking exclusively to Travel News Digest on the sidelines of the roadshow, Yousef Mohammed Alkhan, Director of Tourism Marketing & Promotion, BTEA quipped, “We were delighted to receive such a great response in both the cities. The purpose of this roadshow was to increase awareness and visibility of the destination amongst the travel agents in these cities by providing them all the information and support directly from our partners.”

Speaking on the target segment of the travellers, Alkhan said, “Our primary focus is on the MICE and wedding market. India has a huge potential in both the markets and we are looking to capitalise by organising roadshows and educating the travel trade. We have luxury hotels, convention centres to fulfil the demands of our guests. We are more than happy welcome to invite them and explore the hospitality of Bahrain.”

“All the travel agents and tourism professionals were provided with the latest information and updates on Bahrain’s touristic offerings through presentation followed by B2B sessions. We hope this roadshow will give a positive result in terms of increase in arrivals to Bahrain from India,” Alkhan concluded.

Various industry partners from Bahrain Tourism and hospitality entities joined the roadshow to promote the country’s unique hospitality services and attractions including; Gulf Air, The Ritz-Carlton, Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, Novotel Hotels & Resorts, Elite Hospitality Group, Lagoona Beach Resort and destination management companies including; Go Gosaibi Travels, Mathias Tourism, Lets Go Bahrain, Farhat International Tours & Travels and Bahrain International Travel.

Speaking about the roadshow, Sunil Mathapati, Country Manager, BTEA said, “We want to create the awareness in other markets in India, and Chennai and Bengaluru become the biggest source markets to promote Bahrain as a tourist destination. Bahrain being just four hours from India becomes an apt tourist destination.”

Mathapati confirmed that India is one of the important markets for Bahrain tourism and currently the destination is focused on MICE and wedding travellers from the country.

“This roadshow would make the travel agents/tour operators informed about the offerings of a new destination and how they can package it for their customers. Bahrain also offers islands, beaches, and desert areas as top locations in order to tap growing MICE and wedding market. There are confirmed seven weddings from India between November 2018 and April 2019 in Bahrain,” he added.

Mathapati also showcased top family, MICE and wedding destination across Bahrain in a presentation. Qal’at Al-Bahrain, Bahrain National Museum and Al-Fatah Mosque were amongst the destinations presented during the roadshow.

Apparently, the country will organise Formula One Grand Prix also known as Gulf Air Formula One Grand Prix from March 29 to 31, 2019 at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

The roadshow was in line with the BTEA’s strategy to promote the destination and country’s tourism sector under the slogan of ‘Ours.Yours.’.
