Turkish Culture and Tourism board conducts six-city roadshow in India

The Turkish Culture and Tourism board recently concluded its six-city ‘Destination Turkey’ roadshow across India. This was held in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Stakeholders, travel agents and policy makers attended the roadshow in these cities where the Turkish delegates acquainted them with current tourism offerings of Turkey. Representatives of hotels, airline, tourism council and other partners from Turkey were present and held informative sessions with the guests. The delegation also interacted with the agents and shared insights on how to promote Turkey as a destination.

Turkey and India enjoy warm relations, which has steadily grown year by year in both scope and depth and spans many different areas of cooperation. The tourism exchange between both the countries has gone upward and Turkey is emerging as a hotspot for MICE, weddings and leisure tourism. India is one of the most crucial and promising tourism markets for Turkey.

Deniz Ersöz, Culture & Tourism Counsellor, Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in India said, “India is a very important market and we are aware of the potential it holds in terms of inbound visitor traffic to Turkey. The six-city roadshow proved to be extremely successful as it witnessed great participation and interaction between Indian travel agents and Turkish delegates. There is a keen interest to promote Turkey as a destination and through this workshop, we updated agents about Turkey’s latest offerings. We look forward to doing more sessions here in near future.”

“In 2017, Turkey hosted more than 32 million international tourists while from India the number was 87,000. This year, from January to July, we recorded a 25% increase in the number of overall tourists. That means we will be hosting 40 million international tourists by the end of 2018. When we look at figures from India, we see 95% increase for the same period. If this trend continues we will be hosting almost 2 lakh Indian tourists by the year-end,” he added.

The roadshow was done in collaborations with Travelshop. Representatives of renowned hospitality brands and travel partners from Turkey like Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Pullman Hotel Istanbul Airport, Gloria Golf & Resorts, Sabtur, Lionel Hotel, The Marmara Hotel, FBB Travel were part of this workshop.

Turkey has a lot to offer in terms of tourism, culture and commerce and it is imperative that the scope of engagement between both countries should now be taken to the second level. India is one of the most crucial and promising tourism markets for Turkey. The number of Indian tourist arrivals, Indian weddings in Turkey and MICE engagements is increasing steadily which is a good sign. The hotels and resorts in Turkey are witnessing a significant surge in tourist arrivals. The heavy turnout at beach hotels and resorts has exceeded expectations.
