J&K Governor Advisor: Promoting ecotourism can help tourism industry thrive

Jammu and Kashmir’s Advisor to the Governor, Khursheed Ganai said the state’s tourism industry will thrive if it is promoted as an eco-tourism destination. Ganai also urged the youth in protecting the environment and conserving natural resources of the state.

According to an official spokesperson, the advisor was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of third International Research Conference on Ecotourism and Environment at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences (SKUAST), at its Shalimar campus in Srinagar.

In his speech, Ganai appealed the youth to support and adopt government policies of environment conservation. “Nature has been kind to us in a way by bestowing us with abundant natural resources. It is our collective responsibility to conserve this treasure for all times to come,” he said.

He also urged the delegates and scientists present at the ceremony to share their valuable expertise in the field of preserving and conserving the nature.

Ganai said. “Our state has breath-taking locales which can match or even beat the very best in Europe. Ecotourism reams our USP and the travellers keep coming back as they are fascinated by our natural beauty. The tour and travel industry will thrive if the state is promoted as a prime ecotourism destination. We hope to increase the footfall of nature tourists to the state.”

He also visited the infamous SKUAST campus high-density apple orchard, which has a much smaller gestation period and bears fruit within a year-and-a-half.
