New tourism initiatives to attract more visitors to Jammu & Kashmir

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up to make the state an independent tourist destination by boosting the tourism sector in the region by encouraging Adventure Tourism to attract visitors.
The Minister of State for Tourism, Priya Sethi announced that Jammu and Kashmir intends to celebrate the remaining of 2017 as the year of Adventure Tourism to attract people. Adventure sports like whitewater rafting, skiing, snow skating, mountain climbing, stay in tree house, snowboarding and trekking would be encouraged.
Sethi also revealed a new type of attraction for tourists during the upcoming Navratras in Jammu- Manokamana Yatra. This Yatra is targeted to domestic as well as international visitors to encourage the growth of Pilgrimage and Spiritual Tourism and be able to be a part in this holy occasion.
She cited that this initiative will take place during the Navratras. The hotel owners of Jammu, Udhampur and Katra will have to play a bigger role in it.
Manokamna Yatra package in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board in Jammu will make people travel on Jammu-Kol Kandoli – Deva Mai- Charan Paduka – Adhkwari-Bhawan on Day 1. On Day 2 they will go and see Bhawan – Bhairo Ghati – Katra-Nau Pindi-Sihard Baba-Rafting at Dera Baba Banda Bahadur-Bawe Wali Mata-Mahamaya Temple. On Day 3 tourists will be taken to Jammu-Surinsar-Mansar-Chichi Mata-Jammu-Suchetgarh and the fourth day will conclude with their visit to Jammu-Akhnoor-Jammu Darshan which will include a visit to Bagh-e-Bahu and Suchetgarh border.
The tourism industry is the backbone of the state and Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has taken personal interest by touring border areas as well as major tourist destinations of Jammu to ensure that tourism gets a boost.
