Dr Lalit Panwar appointed as the new Tourism Secretary

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Dr Lalit K Panwar (IAS) as the New Tourism Secretary.  Dr. Panwar previously held the position of Secretary, Ministry of Affairs. The earlier order of transferring Arvind Mayaram to the Secretary’s post has now been cancelled. He is presently serving as the Finance Secretary to the Tourism Department

Dr Panwar, a 1979 IAS from Rajasthan cadre holds a PhD in Tourism.  Familiar with the Tourism Department in both, home cadre in Rajasthan and in the Central department, Dr Panwar has served as Director–Tourism and Secretary in-Charge in Rajasthan. He was the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (ITDC) from 2010-2013.

Dr Panwar is known for having introduced several new schemes in ITDC during his stint as Managing Director. During his tenure, ITDC inked a MoU with Hindustan Salts to create theme destination around salt lakes in Rajasthan. The public sector corporation also declared its foray into travel and hospitality education by establishing a global tourism and hospitality university in Haryana. Further, he commissioned documentation of the history of The Ashok Hotel in New Delhi in a Coffee Table Book format.
