Cabinet to consider Thailand Tourism proposal for Andaman rail route

On October 30, 2013, the cabinet meeting in Lop Buri considered the proposal of Tourism Council of Thailand for construction of a rail route along the Andaman coast to promote tourism in the South. A budget has also been assigned for the Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning Office to study the feasibility of a train linking Surat Thani, Phang Nga, and Phuket and other provinces including Krabi.

The National Economic and Social Development Board have also instructed the ministry to consider the expected number of passengers and cargo traffic as well as its impact on the environment.
